Employee Theft

Employee theft occurs in every workplace; most employees do not even consider it a crime.

Employee theft varies from stealing a few pens to the more serious organized theft of expensive equipment or materials.

There are three factors in all employee theft cases:

*          A non-sharable problem

*          A means of rationalizing their actions

*          The opportunity to steal.

This is commonly known as the "Fraud Triangle".

A non-sharable problem

This could be a real or perceived pressure, such as an overdue bill, or wanting the latest cd.

A means of rationalizing their actions

This is a means of justifying the crime. Employees often blame a company for making it too easy to steal. Some can justify it by not getting the promotion they want, not getting as a good a pay-rise or just that a colleague gets better treatment.

The opportunity to steal

The opportunity to steal is the only factor that you, as the employer has control over.

We can assist in identifying the criminal, highlighting how it was possible and advising what to do to prevent it happening again.

Employees will not stop stealing in the workplace.  Do not let a good employee become a good thief.
